Writing ‘Murder in Eagle Cove’ was a journey filled with inspiration, challenges, and countless late nights. The idea for the story came to me during a writer’s retreat in Boquete, Panama, where the serene beauty masked a darker undercurrent. I was captivated by the writing prompt of something that didn’t smell right and mystery, which ultimately shaped the narrative. As I began to write that day, what didn’t smell right was a dead body. After introducing my narrative to the other writers present, I knew I wanted to create a story that would keep readers guessing until the end. Character development was another critical aspect of the writing process. Detective Larry Saunders emerged as a complex figure driven by a personal quest for justice. I wanted readers to connect with him on a deeper level, understanding his motivations and struggles. Through his interactions with other characters, I aimed to explore themes of trust, betrayal, and redemption, making the story a mystery and a reflection of human nature. As I navigated the writing process, I faced moments of self-doubt and writer’s block. However, the support from fellow writers and readers kept me motivated. I learned that sharing my journey, including the ups and downs, is essential in connecting with my audience. As I prepare for the release of ‘Mayhem in Eagle Cove, ‘ I look back on the experience of writing my first fiction with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead.
