I am happy to give this review, having raced through “Murder in Eagle Cove” in a little more than a day because the twists and turns in the story just keep coming. And I did not want to put it down. The main character is a small-town detective but this is very much an ensemble story. The detective, Larry Saunders is called in to investigate when a badly decomposed body is found in the attic of the victim’s home. The story moves forward at a fast pace, involving not only local police but the FBI and even Interpol before it is over, and it moves from the small town of Eagle Cove, Massachusetts, to Panama and Zurich. What starts out as a fairly simple murder investigation eventually turns out to involve crypto-currency, international theft, and corporate intrigue. At times “Murder in Eagle Cove” has the feel of the best TV police procedurals like “Law and Order” before morphing into something akin to John Grisham’s “The Firm.” Some sections had my heart racing, and others frankly left me with a tear in my eye. In the end, the team of law enforcement professionals that see the murder mystery all the way to its conclusion are interesting, well-developed characters conducting a wide-ranging investigation that hits too close to home for Larry Saunders. I would be happy to read more about any or all of them in a future book by this author.

There is not a lot of crime in Eagle Cove, MA, let alone violent crime. However Detective Larry Saunders is called out to a home where there is suspicion of murder. A foul smell of death leads Larry and a fellow policeman to a decomposing body in the attic. This well crafted mystery will keep readers engrossed in the variety of crimes and the tactics used to solve them. This may be the start of a series featuring Detective Saunders, members of his family, and the lovely small town of Eagle Cove.

This book does the main thing that you want a thriller to do: it keeps you engaged the entire time! It hooks you in right away, and it keeps you invested the entire time. The author does a very good job of juggling between following multiple characters through many different scenes, while ensuring that each scene helps advance the plot or character development. The characters are very wholesome and it shows a good glimpse into how families and communities should support each other through the highs and lows in life. It will be easy for readers to finish this book in a single day because you don't want to put it down.

There may not have been much crime in Eagle Cove but a murder sparks a slew of them in this non-stop action thriller. A body is found in a home in one of Eagle Cove’s lovely neighborhoods spurring an investigation that spans policing agencies and countries. Detective Larry is a likeable character. Indeed, his whole family is. But the lack of conflict among them during their stressful situations didn’t quite work for this reader. Still, there are enough intense crises and incidents to keep the reader reading to find out what happens. Once you start, be prepared to turn the pages until you reach the final conclusion.

Murder in Eagle Cove offers a multifaceted storyline and an engaging cast of characters. Although it begins in a small, cozy Massachusetts town, you’ll soon find yourself globe hopping as you follow Detective Larry Saunders and other law enforcement agents delve into a world of financial intrigue. Attention to detail will keep you focused, and family interactions will warm your heart. The multiple personas and action make this a wonderfully easy and enjoyable read. While the Saunder’s are clearly a wholesome, close-knit family, I would have liked to have seen more realistic emotional reactions and responses to traumatic events. Nonetheless, this is a well thought out work of fiction and I look forward to finding out what’s next for Detective Larry. engaging-thriller

Logan Bahr This is the second in a series featuring Detective Larry. All of the adjectives that can be used to describe a griping and plausible mystery thriller are applicable in this review. The characters are truly relatable. Their likes, dislikes, sense of humor and anxieties are all on display and are all emotions that each of us would feel in similar circumstances and as we proceed along with this literary journey. More importantly however, the book brings to life two compelling contemporary issues - the first is the globalization of the world of crime and the second, is the plight of pirated animal and the horrific consequences such has in human cost. Detective Larry is a small-town police detective who has spent the vast majority of his career dealing with local crime, most of which being relatively innocuous. "Mayhem" underscores that none of us is safe from the reach of nefarious international actors. Detective Larry's wife, Saundra, is a skilled lab manager for a pharmaceutical company doing research through the use of laboratory monkeys. Little did they know that these two professional environments were about to collide. The pharmaceutical company's purchase of what they thought were lab-worthy animals gives rise to multiple murders and significant threats to each member of Detective Larry's family, employees of the drug company and members of the law enforcement community. The book begins with the retention of the monkeys from what turns out to be a very dubious source. The characters are skillfully introduced and the plot thickens with several murders in this otherwise sleepy town. The author has woven together the dangers of police work, the impact on the families of these dedicated men and women and the ruthless nature of these international criminals whose dastardly tentacle can reach even the tranquil environments of Eagle Cove. Without giving too much away, justice prevails! I highly recommend this work. It is entertaining and thought-provoking as we see the real cost associated with trafficking enterprises. The lesson is that none of us are immune to the horrors brought by such wickedness. The book ends with the disclosure that one of the Eagle Cove residents, a seventeen year old girl, disappears during a seemingly innocent trip to the local shopping mall. Maybe it is better to say, book three begins in the last pages of book two!!! I eagerly await that book in this trilogy!

I thought Mayhem in Eagles Cove was action packed, intriguing and captivating. The author's unique approach to the storyline introduces our view haw our environment can affect who we are. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an action packed story with many twist and turns on each page. Your ability to work with so many details is your strength. Can't wait to read book three.
